Message from Coach Wall 6/16/2020

I hope all is well and healthy for you and your families.  Summer pride is going well, but please if your son is sick, or showing any signs of illness please keep them home.

I want to address some of the things going on in our world, and to relay how we feel here in the football department at WHS. I made a statement on Twitter recently, but also wanted you to hear from me directly, as your son's coach.
The recent killings of George Floyd and other black Americans bring to light the deep racism that still exists in this country. I got into teaching and coaching because I believed the way to change the world was to first be right myself, then influence and educate each student-athlete that I come into contact with: sharing love, and a respect for each other, all races, all nationalities. I have never walked a day in this world as a black man, but know their experience is much different than mine.
I look at what I can control: my views of equality, my education of the uninformed. I know that I can still grow and be educated more about the issues at hand, because if all are not free, then I am not truly free. I fully support peaceful protest and condemn rioting and violence. I will stand for the anthem proudly, and will lock arms and kneel with my athletes if they ask me to.
As a coach, I commit to hearing your concerns, taking action for change, and ultimately bringing us ALL together. I commit to having our locker rooms, our practice fields, our hallways and offices, and this team be a safe place for everyone. I commit to loving your sons, treating them with respect, listening and learning from them, and protecting them.
If you ever have any questions on how your sons will be treated, or what to expect from me and my staff please reach out.
Also, I have included some important dates for the next couple of months.  Have a great week.
